How to Disable Arcane Turrets BG3: Safe Ways to Get Past Them

Exploring the Underdark in Baldur's Gate 3 presents adventurers with many deadly hazards, but few are as relentless as the magical defenses surrounding the Arcane Tower. The Arcane Turrets guarding the courtyard and entrance can quickly wipe out an unprepared party with high-frequency magical blasts. Fortunately, players can employ several clever strategies to neutralize these ancient constructs safely without taking heavy damage.

Using Anti-Magic Sussur Blooms

Sussur Blooms possess a natural anti-magic aura that completely disrupts the operation of nearby magical devices. Players can gather these glowing blue flowers from the Sussur Tree located near the base of the Arcane Tower. Throwing a Sussur Bloom directly at the base of an active turret will immediately deactivate its firing mechanism.

This approach allows party members to move through the area without triggering combat or taking damage. It is one of the cleanest solutions for players who prefer a non-destructive method to bypass the security perimeter. Keeping a few spare blooms in your inventory can also prove useful for other encounters involving construct enemies.

Stealth and Environmental Cover Tactics

If you do not have anti-magic flowers readily available, stealth remains a reliable way to maneuver past the turrets. Utilizing invisibility potions or spells allows a stealthy character to walk right past their line of sight completely undetected. Alternatively, casting spells like Darkness or Fog Cloud directly over the constructs blinds them, rendering them unable to target your party.

Entering turn-based mode helps players precisely time their movements from cover to cover. Large rock formations and stone pillars in the courtyard provide total line-of-sight protection from incoming projectiles. Moving a single high-dexterity rogue forward to pick locks or bypass obstacles is often safer than moving the entire group together.

Exploiting Lightning Damage Vulnerabilities

For players who prefer direct combat, Arcane Turrets possess a notable weakness to elemental lightning attacks. While their Sturdy feature absorbs most standard physical strikes, lightning damage bypasses their defenses and inflicts double damage. Spells such as Witch Bolt, Call Lightning, or Shocking Grasp can destroy a turret rapidly.

Using ranged lightning arrows or elemental scrolls allows martial characters to contribute effectively from behind cover. Once a turret's health drops to zero, it remains permanently inactive for the remainder of your playthrough. Destroying them also rewards the party with experience points, making combat a worthwhile choice.

Permanently Powering Down the Main Generator

The ultimate strategy to shut down every turret simultaneously involves powering up the main reactor inside the tower. Players can jump down the large blue shelf mushrooms along the side of the cliff to reach the lowest level of the structure safely. Once at the back garden, pick the lock on the basement door to gain access to the interior.

Inside the lowest floor, insert a Sussur Bloom into the central power generator to restore energy to the facility. Restoring power automatically deactivates all Arcane Turrets across the perimeter while simultaneously activating the main elevator. This grants your party safe, unfettered access to explore all upper floors of the Arcane Tower.
